Kandu Kondaen Kandu Kondaen & The Untouchables

I happened to watch the crime caper "The Untouchables" (directed by Brian De Palma and it won an oscar for sean connery's performance)and couldn't help noticing the familiar tune nearer the end of the movie where after the trial and conviction of Al Capone (De Niro), Agent Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) sits on his desk and goes through newpaper headlines. From then onwards if you listen to the back ground score (by Ennio Morricone) you'll immediately recognise that it is exactly the same as start of ARR's Kandukondaen Kandukondean song from the movie "Kandukondaen Kandukondean".

Am i the only one to feel the similarity or has any one else got the same opinion? How often do our beloved MDs of TFM get inspired by well known hollywood flicks?

  Though your observation will still need to be verified, this may not be the first instance of ARR lifting from untouchables. He has done for Baba's title theme. I have noticed something about KK's songs' tunes, all of them have a feeling of Deja vu, I don't know how many people felt it.

  Yeah. I agree about Baba theme being inspired/copied (i would prefer 'inspired') from Untouchables. But for the song from KK, that surely need not be the case. the pallavi are simply the notes of a beautiful raagam in carnatic. I just cant put my finger on the name of the raagam now.

  Actually, Rahman grew up in the 80's which was very popular for pop songs and film scores. If you listen to many of Rahman songs, you would realise he's got many 'inspirations' from that era not forgeting from IR too.
