Has IR composed any song in Saranga Raaga?

I would like to know if someone can let me know if IR has composed any song in Saranga Raagam. If so please give me the name of the movie and links to listen them.

I am curious to listen how melodiously maestro would have composed songs in this raaga.

It is available in Ramaswamy gireesan's site. Use "Raga of the song" thread for such queries.

Chandy - I can't say the "Manasukkul utkaarndu mani addithaai" is in Saaranga, it seems to be in Hameer Kalyani, which does have similar undertones.

I also agree with MS that the song was done by IR's Aasthana violinist Narashimhan, not IR.

I think that song in Nayakan is being composed in Desh raag than in Saaranga. Thanks for the links to the songs composed in hamsanadam.

Nope. It is not dEsh. It is yeman kalyaan (I dont know if this is the right name - a mixture of sankarabaranam and kalyaaNi with M1 and M2 being used so effectively)

DEAR MS:

NEE ORU KAADHALSANGEETHAM is being composed purely in DESH Raag. The song didnot have any usage of both the madhyamas - however it has the usage of both the nishadam. I am sure it's in DESH raag. One of the rare raga compositions. IR has done a great job in this raaga.

ARR also has done a good job in Desh raag in Kandu Kandukonden. Kannamoochi song pallavi was composed in Natakuranji raagam but he uses desh raag in the charanam - marvellous shift. ARR fans might be hilarious about this appreciation.

Aditya, this is not correct, means either you do not know desh nor Y.Kalyani. Have you heard the song "irvum nilavum malaratume" i think it is from Karnan...if so can you tell me what raga is that ?

I believe MS is right - The 2 madhyamam2 are prominent in the song "nee oru kaadhal sangeetham"

i did not intented to be harsh on you,
but those are 2 differnt ragas.

if you want to hear those ragas in carantic music, I can give you links, give me your email I will send you some good sites where you can learn raga.

(Haris: saranga and hameer kalyani are very close and similar.)

I didnot take it personally - as I believe it's a never ending learning - Nothing is perfect!!

Well before I get convinced that it's in YK, I need to play the song on my piano and confirm to myself. Maybe you guys are right or could be wrong.

I have a doubt about the raaga of the song in Raaja Parvai - Sequence is that Kamal Haasan will be describing about Madhavi's anatomy.

In the same movie, kamal haasan plays violin on stage for bling people. Am I right that he starts with Poorvi Kalyani and then goes into Panthuvarali.

'nee oru kaandhal sangeetham' and 'iravum nilavum' were discussed a lot in 'raga of songs' thread. Final agreements:

nee oru kaadhal sangeetham - some raga close to 'saranga','hamir kalyani'. If I'm right, Hari said it's kesar nat.

iravum nilavum - One of saranga tharangini or suddha sarang
