Mass Appeal

When it comes to "Mass-Appeal" in current TFM, I think this is how the rating goes.
1. ARR
2. Deva
3. IR
4. Other MDs

  WhyNot, in my post thats y i tried to avoid as ArtiSTIC approach. I typed as artist'S approach. I wanted to give stress on the approach and definitely not on the commerical aspect. im sorry if it sounded confusing or otherwise.

  Thanks for the compliment.The correct barometer of mass appeal is the tea shop, town bus & marriage halls in which the songs are played.//wll said.
  Yes I do live in India. Does it matter? Even abroad mass appeal would mean how well it is recd in public places,how often it is hummed etc isn't it.

  I strongly object this statement, IR never demanded any producer / director to put his image in posters, it was the popularity that he had in public that made them do it on their own ...
  
  What next ? Tendulkar forced don bradmand to say he bats well ?

  and I don't see anything wrong in collecting royalties for songs, after all its his work and he is paid for this ?
  
  Whenever I buy a 'How to name it' or 'nothing but wind' (I have the habit of giving it as a gift to my non-tamil friends), I am proud that a share of it will go to the actual creator !

  But IR didn't find it obscene that his face was featured prominently in the hoardings either. So the argument that IR is purely artistic falls thro' the window.

  Please read on what context I wrote that.
  After all these, can anyone claim that IR was purely artistic?
  Take note of an important point: I did not say that it is wrong of IR to collect royalties.
  But, upon doing it, don't put on an artistic stance.

  I didn't say that IR was purely artistic and I don't accept that too ... I knew you talked in that context only, But your claim that IR made the producers etc., to publicise his face is wrong, thats what my point is !

  I didn't say he made the producers to publish his mug. I only said that like any other mortal the talented IR also found it hard not to bask in the glory of seeing his face near the Gemini fly over.Therby any artistic pretensions go KAPPUT. I for one do not deny the talent of the man( before IR fans jump up , I also know that my accepting or denying would do little as the proof is in the body of work that has been done by IR. My only consistant grouse is that the holier than thou attitude of IR ( towards his peers) & the blinkered attitude of his fans. Period.
