Ilayaraja Or Bust?

I have been listening to Tamil film music for so long and even though i'm 22, I can only relate to IR's music. I can appreciate the old MDs but it kind of ends there. I tried listening to others and it wears off on the 1st listen. Hindi music is even worse(except for the old ones).

So far Ilayaraja sir is the only one who can sustain quality and innovation. Why aren't there any other true composers out there for a population of more than 1 billion? It's really scary to think of a world without the music of IR. It's even scarier to think of all the bad songs/incidental music we are getting non-stop from all the present wannabees. Only God knows how long this will continue.

For a population of more than 1 billion it's really incredibly amazing that we don't see any other good composers. Will we?

  MU beat Arsenal 2 - 0 at Old Trafford, and drew by two lucky goals(for Arsenal)..at highbury...

  and MU...did went thru...the toughest MONTH of teh campaign in April...
  
  Beating Liverpool, News Castle, BlackBurn, Spurs...and also beat Real Madrid...once....now..that's something to talk abt....

  Paran, idhellam thevaiya :) Msia doesnt have a presence in Asian soccer Merdeka Cup notwithstanding, would struggle to beat an arab club side. Funny to see msians/sg guys scuffle over Eng clubs when their own countries are nowhere in soccer :) And Eng is the country all soccer fans love to hate!

  Were u born when Rashid Sidek stunned Sugiarto to win the Thomas Cup for your home country Msia in summer of 92?
  Post Sidek, Msia is a spent force in baddy, Roslin Hasham an exception.
  Gopi's All England win on Mar 11 2001 had several predecessors, Prakash's 80 triumph, Syed Modi's 82 Commonwealth triumph,etc but Prakash left India in mid 80s and that led to a downswing for baddy in India, a trend aggravated by Modi's death on Aug 28 1988.

  Where were you during the 86 World Cup, 88/92 Euro Cups when Eng barely qualified...they never made it to the 94 Cup. English clubs were hopeless in Europe when Italian/Spanish clubs reigned in 85-95. English hooligans made more news than their players then! Maradona, Careca, Matthaeus, Linekar, Baggio..all the 80s/90s WC stars were lapped up by Italian clubs.

  Paran Eng won WC alright, but that was prob in our Thathas' days - 1966! U'd shed tears to know they were shocked by lowly USA in the 1950 Cup itself :)
  Plus, they nearly lost to tiny Morrocco in 86, managed to draw 0-0. Happily, they were no match for Maradona's wundergoal later.
  England are the worst (un)sporting visitors, be it a visit to Melbourne or Mozambique.

  no probs but Paran, can I ask you something? Dont assume too much and make statements like "can u name one player?.." Unless you enjoy being rolled over!
  There are a million Indians who follow sport closely much before you were born and have stats at their fingertips. Guess its common for expat Indians to belittle native Indians. P'raps coz Msians are crazy about going to UK for higher studies and ape everything that's British. Just like how some Indians go gaga over US.
  Whether you like it or not, Englishmen have done nothing major in sport outside their country.
