Are Thyagaraja and Ilayaraja the most prolific composers ever?

Both of them have over 4000 songs to their credit. While Thayagraja has been a true vaggeyakara ( one who writes both the lyrics and sets them to music ), Ilayaraja has composed the music for thousands of songs and also been a vaggeyakara himself, albeit in a limited sense. Ilayaraja has also composed background scores for over 800 films.

  one thing is surely true. Thyagaraja never did copy or lift tunes in his time. Ilayaraaja did.

  Comrade Confucius : Just shows that you, indeed, are confused. The question was whether they are the most prolific - nothing to do with originality. Perhaps that will clear your confusion and also help you choose a clearer name.

  The topic is interesting.confucius dont know much about the musichistory of Tamil.Because
  he say Thyagaraja never did copy.It is not true
  there are so many evedence of thyagaraja and other
  socalled "great composers" are copied the folkmusic of Tamilnadu.Dr.s.Ramanathan (professer of carnaticmusic)made some musicprograms in thiruchi radio about how did Thyagaraja completely
  copied from tamilfolkmusic and templesongs & the
  great nathaswaram.All the socalled "sangeetha jambavankal" accept that.Because mr.Thyagarajah
  wrote his songs in his own language, therefore
  people think there is nothing in Tamil. They mistake my friends.Because,before Mr. Thyagaraja
  and other there were "muum moorthikal" in Tamil.
  In music history nodody never tell the truth about their secrets of music.The same think is that A.R.rahuman says he is not listning illaiyarajah´s songs.Because ARR think his fans
  are fools. That maybe correct!
  But Anandevikatan in cinema section about Padiyappa (vimarsanam)wrote that they can´t see
  ARR, Because the songs like Illaiyaraja´s and some songs like Deva.
  I think Mr.Illaiyarajah is most tallented and
  great musician/composer india has ever produced.
  But it is very sad that mr.Illaiyaraja din´t come
  out of the cinema.

  mr.M.S.Viswanathan & mr.K.V.Mahadevan in a concert
  in Madurai maybe in 1990.MSV was agreed Raja and

  There is no point in comparison as thyagaraja was focussed on compososing Kirthanans strictly adhering to ragas. IR did film music, which is bit different from setting Keerthanas (I mean to say the Melody). Both are great in their own way.
