Why does Carnatic songs of IR sound so different from ARR ?

I'm not music literate and go more by feel and hearing...and this has always baffled me. Why does carnatic songs tuned by IR sound so different from those of ARR ? Could you please throw some light on this ?

  Shankar Mahadevan was also introed by IR, but if IR uses him today they say he is going ARR way!.

  Shankar Mahadevan was introduced by Ranjit - 'NeTRu No No' is his first song in Tamil (Movie : VIP) Fastbased song to which Shankar's voice fits just perfect.,
  
  IR used Shankar Mahadevan first in Telugu Andhapuram (Thai Thagathai) and then in Tamil Nilave Mugam kaattu (Sittu parakkuthu)., After this .. ARR used him in Sangamam (Varaga nathikkarai ooram) which made him very popular.,
  
  But the sad part is Shankar Mahadevan always mentions ARR's name in every interview, forgetting Ranjit and IR who believed in him for his first entry in southern side.,
  
  Unni menon, Mahalakshmi Iyer also falls into same category - introduced by IR (in tamil) and made popular by ARR., After a bit of thinking, we can also include Sujatha to the list.

  agreed, it does have shades of sangeetha jaadhi mullai in places-incidentally, IR got the Nandhi award for this movie from AP govt that year.

  that's all, correct me if I'am wrong.
  I'am mentioning this because I heard
  the Mohamul song in radio only a couple
  of weeks back and as soon as I heard the
  first line of the pallavi,I was reminded
  of KKKK song.After that of course the
  entire course ofthe song changed in

  I thought Shankar Mahadevan had sung a bit in Urvashi Urvashi in Hindi. I think that came before VIP. I am not too sure..

  IR's gave a super energetic carnatic based qawwali type rhythm song in Orey Muththam - Paavairgal Maan Poley..... (SPB/SJ, with SPB just too good in that song)
  
  Rahman' Vaaraga' song charanam has a portion exactly like the IR' song above (which is a unexpexted twist in the charanam), the rythm i think is also a close imitation, i find.
  
  that is the diff between IR and ARR' carnatic compositions
  
  NagaS, I think Rahman used SM first before IR brought him for anthapuram (bytheway, a super tribal type composition, orchestration stanzas mind blowing.)
