Keeravani get best MD award (National) for Annamayya. Why not "Guru"

Hi,

I was surprised to find that Keeravani has been awarded the best MD (National Awards). I was thinking all along that the best music to come out in 1997 was "Guru". Not b'cause I like IR but the music is very involved. Lot of effort has gone into it. I have heard the music of Annamayya and it is OK at best. Maybe the committe decided to give the award to some movie which has a classical base. BTW, Guru was also not given the best MD even when Kerala State announce the awards. Guru got some other awards in Kerala but not music. Any reactions.

  What I feel about IR's "Guru" not getting the National Award is that, the committee which decides on awarding the best MD must have decided that if they had to give best MD award to IR, then they had to give it every year to ONLY him. So, they must have planned to name an award in the name of IR and give it to other MDs. Now, that is the only way to honour him. By giving National Award to IR, only the Award gets honoured.
  
  Also, what happened to "Sivaji" Ganesan? Without any doubt, he was and he is the best actor in the country (If we can get another actor like "Sivaji" Ganesan it is a gift to us). But, he hasn't been honoured, while "Dynamic Star" Devaraj has got a National Award. I am not saying that the latter is not qualified for the award and all. I haven't seen much of him. But, what about "Sivaji" Ganesan? That tells the whole story of these National Awards. What "Sivaji" Ganesan is in acting, IR is in music. So, why do we need to worry about these awards. Whole of India knows that IR is the best MD ever to be born in this country.

  Yes raja got it for rudraveena(telugu),sindhu bairavi and one more(i'm not sure if it's sagara sangamam).

  I personnaly think that the national awards committee for music, does not have the standard to judge raaja's music in "GURU". Amazing orchestrations with Hungarian music instruments is just out of the world. I cannot argue about this with anyone since "GURU" is too good in songs. "GURU Charanam ... is just a prize winner.
  I am really surprised "Annamaya" got the award. With due apologies to the great musician. Our film awards committee always consider classical a step ahead of nonclassical music. If the great "Annamacharya" were asked to judge the songs he would have preffered "GURU". Again I am a hardcore fan of the meastro. But just think the efforts taken by the meastro to compose with "hungarian" instruments, just because the director wanted it.
  
  I am glad that at least there are people who realise the worth of the maestro even after the advent of zero knowledge music directors like R,D etc..OOPS!!!

  Looks like IR has lost charm in composing great tunes which will eventually be wasted in TFM with lousy picturisation. He probably wants to stay around composing great BGM -like those in legendary Hollywood movies.
