why did the IR stop working with Vani Jairam

Why did IR stop working with VJ. Was it genuine prefernce for PS and SJ. Or is it true that she demeaned IR.
Of course I dont think anybody could have done better justice to IRsor any MDs songs more than PS or SJ

  One thing, IR hasn't given any song for SJ for so many months now. Why?
  
  VJ had never been his mainstay singer. IMHO, whenever the producer/director opted for VJ, IR didn't have any issue with her. She sang in many movies of Sridhar, then`kavidhai kELungaL' in Punnagai mannan, a film in which KSC was the main singer with no song for SJ (I think). I don't think he had any bias against VJ at any point of time, while it's true that his first choice was always SJ -whose talents he openly praised often. May be VJ (a classical oriented singer) was not considered suitable for majority of his film scores, but was often given classics like `indRaikku Enindha AnandhamE'.
  
  tree & Ramesh, IR himself has praised mellisai mannar, using all possible adjectives describing his great musical capabilities. There's no way he would have resented VJ praising MSV (even if your news is true). And there's nothing on record of VJ demeaning IR, no, never. If you have any references, go ahead and show.
  
  If not, don't try to impute wrong motives in other people, which, IMHO, is demonic behaviour.

  I myself haven't understood the reason for this... why did it really happen? ( This thing had been discussed earlier but I really have got no convincing reason).The only thing that I know is that it was such a pity. She sure had done exceptional justice to his songs - I have liked almost all VJ-IR songs. I dont say the same about VJ-MSV too.
  
  I do not mean to say that IR should not have used SJ,KSC or anything like that. Of course he knew what he was doing and then both these are extraordinary performers. But then why so few songs for VJ? Surely she could have done many more, and on a mor regular basis. I guess "kavidhai kelungal" was the last song she sang for IR? Almost 15 years ago? And what a composition and what awesome singing!! Some songs are created to be immortal, and this is surely one such.

  But IR did not use VJ even in movies like Salangai oli.That Om namsivya by SJ ...Poor VJ!I do not intend to start an anti-SJ thread but that was a clssical song which VJ would have done real justice.

  IR kku antha alavu kooda Producer kitta hold irukkatha?Remeber it was with K viswanath's Sankarabaranam VJ got her national award.I doubt the producer /Director 's intervention in this case.

  I read somewhere in this forum that SJ helped IR during his early years in the industry (maybe financially too). That might be a reason.
  Moreover, IR might have felt comfortable working with his group of regular singers - SJ, SPB, KSC, KJY, Arunmozhi and several others for chorus. Something like his friends circle. That might be a reason why he didn't shop around for singers. and even if he did they didn't last long (Minmini, Sujatha, Deepan Chakravarti)

  This is no valid case for VJ (that too your trying to do at the expense of IR which is unnecessary). That way I would have preferred SJ doing `nane nana & ore nal unai nan...nalla logic ille?

  In Gharshana (Telugu-dubbed version of Agni Nakshathiram), Vani has sung most of the songs sung by Janaki in Tamil.
  One of Vani's all-time greats, 'EnnuLLil EngO Yengum Jeevan' (ROsAppoo RavikkaikkAri) is by IR.
  I however do agree that he could have given more opportunities to her in many songs. Imagine her singing Asha Bhosle's 'Shenbagame Shenbagame' or Janaki's 'Chinna ThAyavaL'

  Hello OISG... I am glad IR chose SJ for that salangai oli song...SJ is much better singer than shrill nasal dull VJ. Thats why she was much more successful than VJ. Even Chitra, SPS were much better than VJ thats why IR preferred them over her. thank God as so many songs were saved.
  
  Janaki's voice has better emotion and feeling and she is also much mor versitile. Imagine VJ doing Annakilli or Sindhubhairavi or Salangai Oli/Jhonny song. How I shudder.

  I think you have wrongly stated that SJ is much better singer than VJ. SJ has song hundreds of songs for IR but she also has spoiled half of them. VJ had been a special singer for IR and IR had been giving her chance consistently..but not in the last few years..Ennullil engo (rosappo ravikkai kari), naane naana (azhage unnai aradhikkiren), en kalyana (''), kavidhai kelungal (punnagai mannan), nee kaettal (ilamai oongal adugirathu)are some of the best songs of VJ with IR. But because VJ has a 'ganeer' voice, it's not well suited for all types of songs. VJ is a well trainned hindustani/carnatic singer who can sing fluently in 9 different languages... pl remember VJ was once a nightmare for latha mageshkar... unfortunately her talent has never been fully utilized (like uma ramanan who is another good singer)

  Please stop comparing great artists like S.Janaki and Vanijaram. Both S.Janaki and Vanijayaram are good singers undoubtedly. They had different voice and were famous in their own ways. To have a different voice is success of a singer. That's why S.Janaki, P.Susheela, Vanijayaram, chitra, Sujatha are all famous for. Singing is not imitating or mimicry. One should have a voice different of others. Why Illayaraja choose janaki for certain songs and vanijayaram for certain songs is that, the maestro knows which song is suited for which singer. For example the song "kavidhai kelungal " from the film "punnagai mannan" is made for vani and the song "Annakili" from the film "Annakili" is made for janaki. It depends on the song.
  
  So lets stop comparing singers, and learn to praise them for the contributions they have made to the world of music.
