I think we can separate the discussions as SPB-IR-Kamal and SPB-IR-Mohan. This wud be very interesting. Plus this cud be a different way of discussing!
IR-SPB-Kamal which according to me is the killer-combo. My fav. songs are "ilamai itho itho" and ofcourse "andhi mazhai"

even spb-rajini,spb-karthik,spb-prabhu along with irr are deadly combinations. irr was generous that everygreats should hava a place in history and that is the reason he used spb not only to maximise the quality of his music but also the songs. but the same cannot be said of another genius where he wanted to take all the credits

fan, even in this thread IR is the common denominator. After IR only do the other people take credits with reg. to music.
again a contradiction in ur statement

u started out to say he wanted to spread the "place in history" to lot of people but then ended up saying he gave only spb chances.

Fan has a point, it's not just IR, but most MD initially make use of SPB, but once they have firm foot in the IFM, they seems to forget SPB, typicall examples are; ARR & Deva.
Deva is no good for anything, everyone knows that, he lacks originality, his tunes are from IR,MSV,KVM,ARR,Michael Jackson to Janet Jackson, all the reggae, jamaican music anything you name deva will copy it., but most of deva's songs in the early 90's were sung by SPB.
Kadhal Kottai, Annamalai,Basha... were all hit, because SPB breathed life into those song, same cocept is used by ARR, eg "roja","gentleman","duets",....
But I do not know if IR has done the same thing, but he copied ARR techniques of employing nasalists, like HH,UK,Udit,Shanker,...etc.

okay i can see this fastly deteriorating into another IR-ARR debate. Although once again i am involved :-) (although to be politically correct I will point out that this is a digression from fan's comments)
Raghuvaran,
recently I pointed out a IR movie which had no spb
"barathi" had no spb. IR has done movies w/o spb a lot of times.
plus! even though I like spb. I think if spb is that great he will survive any competition. u cannot preserve spb by eliminating competition.
I like HH, UK and SM. Infact I cant believe some one wud critisize SM's voice. I am not comparing but I wudnt like if all songs were just sung by spb.
spb has sung 40K songs and so no one can claim he was not given enough. He has got much much more than any reasonable definition of enough.
so lets keep this thread to discuss IR and SPB rather than bash other MD's and singers

Here is a statistical(stupid,vetti and very approximate though) analysis,
I think the directors(esp the big ones)of the movie are influential in deciding singers they want/don't want.
If you look at all the movies of ARR under different directors,ARR has an average of atleast one SPB song per movie under different directors barring couple of exceptions-Bharathi Raaja(BR) and Mani Ratnam(MR)(two big names).Assuming one SPB song in a movie is a aggreable criteria.
Out of four movies of BR with ARR,SPB has been used in only "Maanuthu mandhaiyile" from "Kizhakku semaiyile".
Coming to MR and ARR,only "Kaadhal rojavae" had SPB.Of the MR produced movies in which ARR scored the music Indra had a couple of songs by SPB.In the other two movies MR produced "Naerukku ner" and "dum^3" there is no SPB songs.
People looking for new angles to fighting? Music director Vs singer is a innovative way to fight.Just kidding.-)

So IR did not use SPB in "bharathy", big deal, but what about "Kakai sirahinile", (parthiban's film), where the majority of songs are sung by SPB, what about Vijayakanth's "tharma(IR is the MD)" where all the songs are sung by SPB, what abot IR's friends movie, SPb had one or two songs.

now when u put a list of MD's who did not give even a single song to spb in an entire movie. u have to pen down IR's name!
and when u write a list of MD who used spb u will have to write ARR's name.
now is the time for u to start talkin abt the # of songs spb has sung under IR.

once again i agree spb is great but enna tfm avarukke sonthamaana vishyama. summa avare padikittu irukke. everyone needs change! if spb sings its good if not lets see who else is singing.

surfers spb is so great and singing since 1966 that any number of threads can be started on him. only fools will question that. if you do want it, leave there . dont come to this thread. there are several crores of spb fans who will participate and the very name spb remains us of the divine voice and he is very special to tfm as his veryname contains muruga, the favourite god of the tamils.

it was illayaraja who got the best out of spb. it was ir who proved spb's greatness to the music world and the versatility of spb.Now when illayaraja is down the road, i think spb alone can bring him to the No.1 spot through his golden voice. illayaraja, instead of running after stale svoices like hh,sm,unnikrish should get back to spb if at all he wants to get back to the peak
