One cannot deny 'Thenisai Thendral' Deva's contribution to tamil film music.

He is talented in all styles and satisfies the producers and listeners alike.

His music is updated day by day and he catches with the trend. That by itself had made him bear brickbats as ?copying. I feel this is not true in all the sense because you hear to a lot of melody numbers, folk tunes, western, hindusthani etc., which shows his originality.
"He is pious, humble and level headed", as appreciated by the media. He popularised the Gana songs, which is a lay man expression of his feeling, which was neglected and considered Cheap by other MDs. His orchestration and rhythm patterns are excellent. His BGMs are different and his Rerecording scores are appropriate to the sequence. He doesnt use the whole orchestra just because it is available!

He has used all kinds of voices and gives special mention even to chorus singers in the media.

He dedicates himself to social work through religion and does a lot the society through Melmaruvathur temple, quietly without any publicity. His appeal for to the nation for Gujarat earthquake victims is moving!

He has set a trend that the present day 'young music directors' have started to follow the pattern of Deva and ARRahman to create.

  Deva is the only music director who takes film music without complicated compositions after Ilayaraja.
  Deva's film songs have a variety of songs to suffice the needs of all types of audiences, be it A.B or C centres

  Though I am IR fan, we seem to discrimate Deva, Sirpi etc., They have composed beautiful songs. After all everyone copies thesed days. I still find it very difficult to listen to SAR though

  Come on, folks. even if Deva has given us a few good songs, these songs must have been copied from elsewhere. The only style of music that Deva is good at (he doesn't need to copy it) is the gaanaa style.

  Listen to Devas Album. It has a one of each style. He is for sure to give a ghaana for the lay audience, a Rahman sounding (not copying!!) song for the contemporary listeners, a folk type song a duet etc and makes it a point to use variety of voices and good singers. I listened to one of his CDs, where yugendran has sung with Balamuralikrishna. He uses great voices like Sivachidambaram, Krishnaraj, Anuradha sridhar, anupama, in his recent films.
  
  His songs are good and he maintains a style of his own with which he has inspired aspiring music directors from great music families. Listen to the latest releases of films tuned by aspiring MDs other than Deva, and you will understand who copies/inspires whom.

  Dont think tfm listeners are fools. "The" Competent music director of all styles Deva is proving!
  Now even younger MDs have started following him, which is evident with the difficulty in finding out the Music directors identity (as to whether it is Deva,Bharadwaj, Kartik raja or Yuvan shankar raja) without seeing the cassete cover. Young children and college students are crazy after his music, next to AR Rahman!
  When Deva has got a clear identity for his styles why should you people reject blindly! Music, especially tfm is meant for every one, be it rich or poor, intelligent or not, brainy or morons, it is for EVERYBODY TO ENJOY! Look what is happening to "Brain boasters" in tfm today. If you have brains keep it to yourself, as Iam sure (by the way you are asking to get it), You have only got it from a mutton stall 'madurai thalapakatti thalai kari stall'.   Before trying to scrutinize me,pls have a close watch on who this forum is started by & how many forums he/she/it!! has started under different names juz to intimidate IR fans(& may be others).
  
  Now if a 'madurai thalapakatti thalai kari stall' brain person like me can see that...then surely a forum gatekeeper cum investigator cum do-gooder like u would would be able to see wonders wouldn't u?

  Ambleen - let it be anybody to start a discussion! Why are you sensitive and bothered? Post your discusions alone. Badri has posted FACTS. Listen to Sri Rajarajeswari, Engallukkum Kaalam varum melodies before blindly attacking. We do appreciate IRs capacity and work. That doesnt mean that you guys can enter all the forums with nasty comments.

  Deva is a music director with a class of his own who has been liked by one and all. People have started to enjoy Devas songs even amidst greats like Ilayaraja, his sons and AR Rahman with a few more new MDs trying the best. It has to be noted beyond bias.

  Deva has proved himself as a magnanimous MD when compared to other MDs by sharing his films, recommending other music directors, which includes his brothers Sabesh-Murali. This shows his broad mindedness instead of treating them like assistants.

  One thing after hearing Deva's music is that, he is just cheat. He may have talents, but he has to show it with his music style, not copying every single thing from western music. I am talking about copying the tune for the entire song and changing the voice. I am just sick of Deva style (copying). It is a major disgrace to Indian music.
  
  May be somebody should sue Deva for copying. Music directors are there to create new music, not copying the old music and selling it in the other part of the world. Then it is not new music anymore and it is not his music either.
