What would be Raja's motive?

In recent times, Raja seems to prefer to do music for movies with stories insisting on social and family themes. It is hard to understand his motive. This kind of movies, though fethcing a little fame, are never going to help him monetarywise. Indeed, some movies with excellent songs and BGM did fail to make any big impact among the public. What Raja thinks on this? only he knows. Let me get the opinion of members here.

  Maslow's theory of heirarchy of needs describes that people graduate thru' heirarchy of needs such as safety, physical, ego needs to the ultimate need for self-actualization. I see that pattern in IR's actions of the past. His selection of movies is an example of that state. I do not think he is motivated by being #1 or glory anymore...he has had that for a lot of years..that's why he accepts projects like Hey Ram - where the challenge for him was to set music for scenes recorded already, Bharathy, Kutti, Lajja. His association with Sankaracharya for the setting up of music school...
  
  One of the many reasons why I admire him and rate him as a class above the rest.

  Fliflo, but how would you explain him taking up projects like friends, azhagi, kAsi etc. which are outright commercials? I don't think it is entirely by preference.
  
  Though I would also like to believe the postings of Krishna & NagaS, reality engO idikkudhE? Could his current assignments a probable result of marketing problem? (It appears even KR & YSR suffer the same while lesser talents like Deva/SAR are on a running spree)

  I hope Friends is the LAST commercial movie that IR has accepted.,
  Azhagi is not a commercial one, I am sure - eventho' it has Parthiban and Nandhitha das in it - Going by what thangabachan WRITES, I don't expect him to DIRECT a 'masala' movie :-)
  
  Kasi ... I agree with you, I also have doubts why he accepted this, May be for the BGM Part ? We know what IR did for Guru - Hero of Kasi is a blind I understand, May be he wanted to do another milestone BGM like that ? I will be happy if he could give me one song like 'ThendRal vanthu theeNdumpothu' in kaasi, I can bear 100 average numbers from him :-)
  
  KR is suffering, thats for sure, But I think YSR's case is different - He has got some good films in Hand - Number may not match with Deva / SAR or even Sabesh-MuraLi, But he is accepting movies with scopre for his style of music, which is good for him.,
  
  BTW, Somebody Observed this ? Except SuperGood Films, No big producer is considering SAR thesedays .....

  eden, i agree that friends was an absolute commercial movie. about kasi, i am not sure. what i meant to be commercial one in this context is what IR has been doing 10 years before..music for big productions..Songs from many of these big banner movies were just superb and ever existing...One should also not forget that however IR works hard for the art movies it fails to get the true appreciation among public. What happened to Heyram is just an example..So IR has to avoid such reservations, if he has any. I wish IR should reincarnate again (like how he was in 80s) to spread the forgotten melody back in our ears..

  What IR is grappling with is something very difficult to describe. He is not techno savvy and he completely detests group composing. The producers are forcing him to dish out stuff which he is not comfortable. I think he is doing the right thing in doing movies which he can relate to.
  Wether his music is commercially viable is something he does'nt care.
  All said and done he will breathe music till his last breath.

  ha ha :) Exactly my feelings.. :) even the average numbers could be made more listenable with better recording or if you prefer different lyrics etc.
  IR IS doing melody..listen to Kanna Unai thEdugirEan..I really love oor urangum nEraththil song. If IR sings a love song..it sounds like a mature/serious love..no juvenile stuff there.
  
  I think IR is trying to balance between keeping busy and doing quality work.

  IR have done wonderful / creative song for 'Manasey^2' in Kathal Sathi. Even VM have not deemed 'manasu' as a separate entity that lovers have ever yearn to give away but (at the same time) can't resist. The entire song sequence (with multiple echoes and wonderful ochestration) will be in my mind for a long, long time to come...friends.

  i saw the movie kutti today. very wonderful in all aspects.
  
  reg. the music the bgm and songs (in that order) are simply amazing.
  
  ir greatly elevated the quality of the movie.
  
  if he is going to do only such movies i would prefer them to ventures like friends.
  
  i feel we all should welcome this change in ir.
  
  why should he bother about other materialistic things like no.1, money? his sons have arrived. let them crave for such things.

  the movie kutty was great and its another feather in rajas cap.....its true that any body who gets up with out his heart being heavy after hearing "thangachi thangachi eangae pore" with his own voice couldnt be a human.....he is the legend " KALLAIYUM KARAYA VAIPAAR RAJAA"
