Role of "Assistant" MDs/Lyricist

I wonder what their roles going to be. Are they just like any apprentice learning the trick of the trade. are they just of do some bits and pieces of work, get approved by master. Incase of MD, do they get involved in BGMs/may be some songs also (Mostly for IR its not true, except some known case of KR involvement). Incase of lyricist this seems to be just a photocopy man. Are they just to make copies, or sit with singers to explain the lyrics/pronouciation. In the field of direction, associate and assistent directors have lot more promising role to play. Any "acutal" information from such 'assitants'.
