Thinking of IR's NA's .. of the 4 Awards, 3 are for languages other than in Tamil - although in one way - it's something good & not something everyone can acheive/aspire for,

Only 1 NA from more than prob 700 Tamil film gems is pretty hard to digest. For all the revolution he created in his time, the award came only close to 10 years after his entry!

In one way, it showcases how less influential is TN / TF in the NA process in general. At least partially this can be attributed to the TN political stance in general (anti-indhi and so considered anti-nationals etc). Phenomenal talents like MSV / Sivaji never got NAs at all, for e.g. and their prime period coincided with the growth period of DMK.

Have heard from all movies, except, Ghatashradha , Rishya Shringa & Hirak Rajar Deshe. One common factor that's true for all is that all the songs / film itself is on a classical base/musical themes (with the exception of Chameli Memsaab-which is Assamese folk). Probably IR's Folk was not considered "Fit" enough.

With all due regards to Bhupen Hazarika, Annakili does deserve to be one up , if I have got the year right (1976).

Nowadays, being "different" is considered fit enough for an award.
