Sun Pictures’ presentation Dindigul Sarathy received tremendous response from the public on its opening day. Public thronged the theatres playing Dindigul Sarathy and came out at the end of the show in a very jaunty mood, discussing about repeating the experience. This should encourage Kollywood filmmakers to make more comedies and to carry on their experimentation with film scripts without any fear of failure – Kollywood audiences are more open to new ideas now.

Dindigul Sarathy, which stars Karunas and Karthika (of Nam Nadu fame), is about a plain-looking and good-hearted man married to a beautiful girl and his pathetic self-doubts. Though his wife loves him for what he is, Sarathy is always obsessed with his pathetic self-doubts, and the resulting antics provide quite a lot of laughter. The film slowly develops into an appealing emotional story in the second half and has a happy ending without becoming sentimental, which makes it more enjoyable. Both Karunas and Karthika have been lauded by the public for their good performances.

In Chennai, theatres playing the film were only crowded, but down south the theatres wore a festive look! In many places, “pal abhishekam” were performed on the cut-outs of Karunas and Karthika! And in Madurai, the exhibitors came to their respective theatres with a group of youngsters performing folk dances around the boxes containing the film reels! Generally, this type of welcome is reserved for big films! Anticipating the great time they would have watching it, the public decided to give the film a grand welcome.

With no obscenity or violence, Dindigul Sarathy is a wholesome family entertainer
