Illayaraja meets Commissioner

Maestro Illayaraja is angry over a royalty issue and met the Chennai Police commissioner to complaint about the same.

Illayaraja told the media that Echo, an audio company, had not been paying him royalty for the past twenty five years. He also added that the company was trying to sell his work to an international company for a few millions.

He concluded that Tamil Nadu Cine Producers Council also assured to help him in this regard, and he took this initiative on behalf of other musicians who might face similar problems.

Illayaraja requested the police commissioner of Chennai, T Rajendran, to take necessary action. Producer Council secretary, Siva Sakthi Pandian and Amma Creations' T.Siva were present with the maestro.

Raaja is making a fool of himself.

If all the rights of his works is with Echo, then how come he sold the rights of all his work till 2000 to Agi Malaysia.

How come some one waited for more than 25 years before making an issue out of it.

More over this is a civil issue. You had an agreement with Echo which they did not fulfil. The only option is to go to court for breach of agreement. Not the police, even if you are famous enough to get an appointment with the CoP.

And to make your case stronger, you claim that you are for the cause of the producers who also did not get their share of the royalties. Only now you got out of sleep and remembered about the producers, is it?

And he claims that Echo is selling thru US labels like Oriental Records, etc. As if he got to know about that only now. He released his two albums HTNI and NBW in CD format only thru that label. At that time, CD was yet to come into the Indian audio market.

Agi can sue him for selling them some thing for which he did not have the rights.

Echo can sue him for selling to Agi some thing for which only they have the rights.

Oh God to what a level he has stooped down to?
