He initially was not a drinker.
he got a severe back injury due to which he was bed ridden for a long time. he recovered to make movie comeback, but the recurring pain forced him into drinking. this is something I read in an interview to a popular mag.
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

Poor thing!! Even though ppl in my house dont follow his movies regularly, as they do for other actors, everybody was in a state of shock yesterday after hearing this sad news!!!

Watching Pottu vaiththa oru vatta Nila on youtube again is going to bring a lump to my throat everytime. That song, more than anything, was what Murali was all about. Sathyaraj once remarked in a lighter vein that Murali was the one Tamil actor who never managed to graduate out of college. Many thanks for that though. Otherwise, we would'nt have all these soulful songs pouring out unrequited love.

That's one thing i wanted to tell. But did not know how to put it. so just left it.
Even though Murali has not established him as a great great hero, there does lie a softcorner in most people's heart. Murali might not have been an actor who was celebrated by our people. But he was certainly an actor liked by many...

its honestly very traumatic to know that you are not going to see someone ever again - its a sinking feeling which has no limits downwards.......im slowly feeling the pinch of murali's loss - mani's first tamil hero, kannadiga who had a seamless tamil accent and supported eelam struggle, darling of the middle-class soft popcorn love stories of 90s.......
my earliest memories of watching a murali movie in theater retracts back to this movie
