Guys , looks like Maestro is doing a devotional album on Lord Aiyappan
"Devotional CDs corner a chunk of the music mart and Sankaran is busy in that department. “Singing for Ilayaraja for an Ayyappan CD has been a rewarding experience and a great learning process, for he takes pains to teach you and explain to you why something must be like that”, he says."

skr,
That must be 'Manikanda Geeta Mala'. While Raja sang most of the songs in Tamil, Shankaran Namboodri sang some of the Malayalam version of the songs. So it is not new.

It seems Balki (cheeni kum and paa) was part of IR's "ENDRENDRUM RAJA" show and he talked about IR on stage. A snippet:
"...But then, Balki dropped the bomb! "When Raja sir played me the tune, I suggested that he use this for a song rather than waste it as a piece of background music. But he went ahead with this. I would ask today's composers to not lift tunes from his songs; instead, they could lift from the BGMs for even the tunes of his background scores are so good," he said..."
Not much value add being on stage, because what he demonstrated (showing scene with and without BGM) is known to everyone!
PAA had IR experimenting more with JAZZy stuff (and electric guitar, especially). Wish Balki had talked about such things.

Thanks much app_engine! Listened to the audio clip at Suresh's site. It was actually nicely put by Balki about the magic of IR's BGM. I take back my wrongly perceived (from the news item) notion about Balki's presence on stage.
thanks,
Krishnan

Raaja has surely changed a lot with respect to his interactions with the public. This started with the overwhelming super response to the thiruvasgam audio launch. From then i know people who have gone to his house to take a photo with him and get his autograph. if he was there they were surely asked to wait and raaja did the take photos with them.
Even in the SRR 50th day function when Ir was asked to come to stage he refused and said please call the director first and then i will come. Thats what happened and IR came to the stage with director Bapu.

Saw a tweet from a Telugu journalist who says he heard two songs from 'Dhoni'. According to him they were situational songs and were melodious. Kamal had asked him about the release date but no news yet on that.
