Raja enchants with his guitar & flute pattukku pattu, chitra's humming!
    bewitching veena and violin!
    ENDEARING 80S ILAYARAJA'S MALARE PESU.....lovely forever!

Look at him when he walks up to her, gentle, pleasant!
subtle romance to the girl's heart ...Actor Murali's touch!

Unassuming sweet smile, an element of beauty in Murali!

Got hold of the precious Meenakshi Stothram LP today. It was in a pristine condition. After a brief wash, scrub and vacuum clean, it went straight to the player. No words to describe the feeling. I felt very special to have this LP in pristine condition with me.. Here is a sample... http://soundcloud.com/raja4ever/meenakshisthothram

Sober singer (vijaytv) has this round going on for the last two days called 'strings melody' - a bunch of 6-8 violins, an acoustic guitar and a bass. All contestants have been singing (quite poorly) IR songs so far. While all this might seem too beautiful and romantic, the horror and unintentional comedy has to be seen to be understood! A myriad of ROFLMAX stuff! A bloody slaughter of the man's intricately woven orchestration! Firstly they've not been playing the original notes but have been doing some kinda ad-lib stuff, which to me reeks of lack of dedication to the art (you could play whatever crap you want, but play the original properly once at least). And it doesn't just stop there, the violins are playing such high quality crap that can put even SAR violins to shame! (the "ohhmygoddhowbyooodiful" comments they get from the 'judges' - )

    Sample - uravugal thodarkadhai
Vocals: iniyellaam (arguably the most goosebumby portion of the song)
    violins: todadoin-pause-todadoin
    vocals: sugamE
    violins: tididoin-pause-tididoin :ungongongong:

    Moral:
hariharization + SARization = deadliest double whammy. Run for cover!

ha ha.. I know what you mean - Hariharization = improvization, SARization = silly strings !! how very appropriate . Yes, I watched this yesterday. Some of the kids are surely very talented though.. to sing like that at that age. but they are nowhere near the original. One of the good things that came about with IR using the same singers is .. they got very good at their art. We get variety/diversity in music these days but the depth is missing. I hope we get over this fascination with various genres and start sticking to some idiom and make serious music.

I have previously heard only the hariharan version - sadhana version is so haunting and so clean - that it stands shoulder to shoulder
in its mood and feel to "Vanaville" from Ramana.
As raja told shreya sometime back - you dont have to learn my language to bring the mood into the song - it is all there in the tune - every single aspect that connects mere sa re ga ma s to the emotion of the character - all encoded neatly. if anything else the interludes complete the effect . Singers can just sing, musicians can just play the note. nothing else is required - the completeness is in the composition.
