SPM sir did not tell me any story. He never had any. We just had to assume it. I thought this was the way to go as you can improvise on the day while shooting. TM is a better movie than Nayagan. Most people like TM than Nayagan. Ellam sari dhaan. In terms of popularity, Nayagan does have an edge over TM. One reason is it appears among the best of, not only Kamal, but also Maniratnam, who's a brand in the north. An article about Mani is incomplete without the mention of Nayagan (Or Velu Nayakan). They tried to remake it and failed miserably. Whereas Virasat, remake of TM (though poor in comparison), was a success.
