Whenever Jayachandran and Susheela have rendered duets composed by Ilaiyaraja, they've always created magic. Some songs that instantly come to our mind are 'Thalaattuthe Vaanam' (Film: Kadal meengaL), 'Poovile Medai Naan Podavaa' (Film: Pagal Nilavu).

    Here are three more beauties.
    1. 'Manjal Nilaavukku' (Film: Muthal Iravu - 1979).
A haunting humming by Susheela, mimicking the sound of train, a very creative handling of Raga Mayamalava Gowla, the 'train' rhythm, flute, guitar strumming, amazing violins in the first interlude, with a scale change in the second interlude... Exceptional rendition by the singers. Notice the fun the composer has had in finishing the song, with a slight elongation of the line by Susheela, followed by a shorter follow-up line from flute at 4.12. Oh, what a wholesome feast!

The song Manjal Nila leads me to a song from the movie of the same name:

    2. 'Poonthendral Kaatre Vaa Vaa' (Film:Manjal Nila, 1982).
A great song with excellent orchestration. Ignore the awful visuals and choreography. Close your eyes and enjoy the song. I think it was featured a few years ago in this thread.

    2. Mayanginen Solla Thayanginen (Film: Naane Raja Naane Manthiri, 1985)
Yet another composition by Raja in Raga Charukesi, but with a completely different flavour. A great lesson in use of counterpoints. Effortless singing at the higher notes by the colossal talent that is Jayachandran.
